SLED has arrested a Marlboro County man accused of sexually assaulting five female children in his family more than a decade ago.
James Everette Grooms, 65, of Highway 381, McColl, is charged with seven counts of lewd acts upon a child under 16, two counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and one count of first degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.
SLED arrest warrants say Grooms sexually assaulted the girls, ranging in age from 5 to 14, at or near his residence in Marlboro County in 1998.
There could be more victims who have not reported similar allegations about Grooms to law enforcement, officials say. Despite the passage of time, additional charges against Grooms are potentially prosecutable.
