SUMTER A 24-year-old carjacking suspect has died after authorities say he was shot by Sumter police officers.
Deputy Chief Russell Roark said that officers were responding to reports of a carjacking Tuesday morning when they saw someone who matched a description of the suspect.
Roark says Aaron Jacobs shot at the officers, who then returned fire and shot him several times.
Sumter County Coroner Harvin Bullock says Jacobs died from multiple gunshots. An autopsy is scheduled for today.
