A man fighting with another man on Shop Road after the University of South Carolina-Alabama football game Saturday night fell under the wheel of a passing vehicle and later died.
“This began as a road-rage incident,” Richland County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Monique Mack said of the Saturday night fight that erupted on Shop Road just a block from USC’s Williams-Brice Stadium hours after USC beat Alabama.
It ended with Allen Gasque, 20, of Marion, falling or being pushed under a truck, which then ran over his head, Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said. “He either got out of the vehicle or was pulled out of it.”
Gasque was taken immediately to Palmetto Richland, where he was pronounced dead of head injuries, Watts said.

Mack said Curtis Simms, 25, of Richland County, has been charged with aggravated breach of the peace. “He is charged with that because his actions led to the incident that caused the death of the victim,” Mack said.
The incident is still being investigated, Mack said. Gasque was not a USC student, a university spokeswoman said Sunday.
