About 500 employees and visitors to the Department of Health and Environmental Control spent part of Thursday outside after a fire alarm went off and forced evacuation of the agency’s two buildings on Bull Street in Columbia.
The alarm, which agency officials said resulted from a fire drill, occurred about 11 a.m. during the agency board’s monthly meeting. The building was evacuated for less than a half hour.
"This was a drill,’’ agency spokesman Thom Berry said.
