It’s a perfect time of year for chili. And West Columbia employees at City Hall, the fire and police departments and other volunteers are having a chili cook-off benefit, to help a park ranger who is battling cancer.
The cook-off is Friday from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., paired with a rummage sale from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The rummage sale continues from 7 a.m.-noon Saturday. The events are at the West Columbia Community Center, 754 B Ave.
Chili is $3 for a bowl, or $7 to try entries from all participating teams. Proceeds will help Allan Burke, a park ranger for the police department who most recently patrolled Riverwalk park.
Earlier this year, city employees held a barbecue fundraiser to help two co-workers who also were battling cancer, raising about $10,000.
