A ceremony intended to highlight awareness of organ transplants will begin at 3 p.m. today at Columbia’s Riverfront Park. Located near the canal overlook, it is part of April’s being National Donate Month.
Music and entertainment will begin the event, called Midlands Linking Hands for Life, followed by a ceremony at 4 p.m. of linking hands to represent the cycle of life.
Currently, some 1,000 South Carolinians are on the national transplant list awaiting organs. Across the United States, some 110,000 people are on the list.
The event is sponsored by LifePoint and Donate Life South Carolina. The two groups provide organ donation services.
