Minutes after an armed robbery early Sunday on Blossom Street in the Shandon neighborhood, Columbia police closed in on a suspect and arrested him without incident.
Justin Enrikus Jackson, 23, was charged with armed robbery and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He is currently in the Glenn Detention Center.
Chief Randy Scott gave this version of events:
About 2 a.m. Sunday, a man was walking in the 2300 of Blossom Street, several blocks east of the Five Points business section, when another man brandished a handgun and demanded his wallet. The victim complied, and the robber “fled on foot with monies taken.”
The victim promptly reported the crime to police, giving officers the physical and clothing description of his assailant.
Soon afterward, police spotted Jackson walking in the 2400 block of Blossom Street and arrested him. He had a handgun on him when arrested, Scott said.
