A 52-year-old bridge in Richland County topped this list of South Carolina’s substandard bridges for the 10th time.
The I-26 bridge that spans C.N. and L. Railroad is three miles northwest of Columbia. More than 500,000 vehicles travel over the bridge weekly, AAA Carolinas reported Thursday.
In this year’s substandard bridge report, AAA Carolinas found 2,016 bridges that suffered from a lack of maintenance or need replacing.
Charleston County led the list of poor bridges with six in the top 20. Richland had four in the top 20, and Lexington County had three. The AAA publishes the list to pressure the Legislature to fund road and bridge maintenance.
