South Carolina secured at least a share of the SEC regular season title with a 3-2 win and series victory Saturday over Alabama.
It's the Gamecocks' third SEC regular season crown and fifth for the Eastern Division. The team also will be the No. 1 seed in the SEC tournament in Hoover, Ala., next week.
Christian Walker, Adrian Morales and Steven Neff drove in USC's three runs, with Neff's coming on a solo home run.
Colby Holmes (6-2) pitched 6.2 innings, striking out five, walking four and allowing one earned run.
Whether or not the No. 3 Gamecocks (44-12, 22-8) have to share the regular season honor depends on how Florida and Vanderbilt fare in their respective games Saturday. The teams entered the day in a three-way tie atop the SEC East Division.
If there is a two- or three-way tie after Saturday's games, the teams would be declared co-champions. However, because the Gamecocks hold the tiebreaker over Florida and Vanderbilt, they earned the No. 1 seed in the SEC tournament.
South Carolina had 12 hits Saturday to five for Alabama, which dropped to 32-24 (14-16 SEC). Evan Marzilli was 4-for-4, while Scott Wingo contributed three hits. John Taylor made his 38th appearance on the year, a single-season USC pitching record.
Saturday's win puts the Gamecocks in prime position to be a top 8 national seed next weekend when the NCAA Tournament field is announced. Being a top seed lets USC host a Regional and - if the team wins that - a Super Regional.
The SEC Tournament begins Wednesday. South Carolina will play in the 5:30 p.m. game against a to-be-determined opponent.
