South Carolina first baseman Christian Walker's status is down for the national championship title series with a left wrist injury.
Walker "tweaked his wrist" in the last at-bat of Friday night's win over Virginia, coach Ray Tanner said Sunday afternoon.
"We were hoping for the best but it wasnt encouraging today," Tanner said after batting practice.
Tanner said trainers don't know the extent of the injury and that Walker will be fully evaluated once the team returns to Columbia.
"Whether or not he'll be able to play is in question," Tanner said. "He made a little bit of progress from the other night, but not enough."
Walker leads the team with a .355 batting average, 10 home runs and 62 RBIs.
If he can't go, it's possibly Robert Beary could move to first base if Brady Thomas feels good enough to return to catching duties. If not, Michael Roth is an option at first.
"It's a big blow for us," Tanner said. "He's been our best hitter from start fo finish almost, a guy that's been a key component of our offense. It's a blow, if in fact he's not able to go."
