The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced Tuesday it will award a $1.7 million grant to the S.C. Department of Natural Resources – money that will go toward DNR’s floodplain mapping program.
The funds will be used to update existing flood insurance rate maps and flood risk data to help communities understand and reduce the risk for flooding, agency officials said.
Updated flood maps and data also can assist local governments in planning for future development and rebuilding efforts, officials said.
