No charges after pedestrian hit, killed near Batesburg-Leesville Tuesday

No charges will be filed after a van fatally struck a pedestrian near Batesburg-Leesville late Tuesday, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The collision happened around 10 p.m. on U.S. 178 near Batesburg-Leesville, according to Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins of the Highway Patrol. A 2007 Ford van traveling east on U.S. 178 struck a pedestrian who was walking in the roadway.

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identified the victim as 27-year-old Ryan Kneece, of Batesburg-Leesville. Fisher said Kneece was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

Collins said the driver, who was not injured, will not face charges because the pedestrian was in the roadway.
