The search for a swimmer who friends said went under the water in the Saluda River Friday afternoon and did not resurface will resume Saturday.

The Columbia Fire Department and other agencies launched a ‘swift water’ rescue effort on land and in the water of the Saluda River near the Riverbanks Zoo after 5 p.m.

Witnesses said they saw a “male” go under and not resurface, spokesman Brick Lewis said on the department’s Twitter account.

This is a developing story, check back later.
