A 43-year-old man who is facing charges for allegedly having drugs in his car is also accused of headbutting two Columbia police officers during his arrest.
Jermaine Gilmore is facing charges of resisting arrest, assault on a police officer while resisting arrest, failure to stop on a policed command, unlawful escape, possession of crack-cocaine and simple possession of marijuana. He was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on Monday.
The Columbia Police Department said Gilmore was pulled over “during a lawful traffic stop” in the 1000 block of Oakland Avenue around 2 a.m., Monday. The officers who pulled him over smelled marijuana coming from inside of Gilmore’s car, the department said in a written statement.
Officers said they found in Gilmore’s car a rock that appeared to be crack-cocaine and a plastic baggie with “white powdery substance consistent with cocaine.”
After Gilmore was placed in handcuffs, he allegedly attempted to escape by headbutting the police officers, who were not seriously injured, the statement said.
