Three Horry County residents have been sentenced related to a bogus lottery scam that targeted elderly residents around the country.
Shadiki Brown, 29, of Little River; Davion Bellamy, 26, of Conway; and Ann Marie Yapp, 44, of North Myrtle Beach received sentences ranging from 27 months to 78 months for their roles in the scam, according to United States Attorney Bill Nettles.
The three were among 18 people indicted and accused of participating in a scam that involved notifying elderly victims that they had won a lottery or sweepstakes, but that they needed to pay fees or taxes in advance in order to receive their winnings.
Brown and Bellamy had previously entered guilty pleas in July, 2014, and Yapp in September. United States District Judge R. Bryan Harwell, of Florence, citing the devastating impact on the more than 150 victims of the scam, sentenced Bellamy to 78 months, Brown to 41 months, and Yapp to 27 months.
Each also was ordered to pay $839,827 in restitution.
