Richland County deputies arrested a 44-year-old man Tuesday night after he fled a traffic stop and led them on a five-mile chase, the sheriff’s department said.
The incident began around 8 pm in NE Columbia when deputies tried to stop a black chevy truck that had been reported stolen. The driver, identified as Bradgent Young, 44, refused to pull over for the blue lights and siren and led police on a chase that stretched from Humphrey Street to Hampton and Harden streets in downtown Columbia, where the truck crashed, Sheriff Department spokesman Curtis Wilson said.
Young fled on foot but was captured inside an Allen University dorm building at 1420 Pine St., Wilson said.
Charged with failing to stop for police and possession of a stolen vehicle, Young was being held at the Alvin S Glenn Detention Center Tuesday night.
