A U.S. airman was dishonorably discharged after being convicted of rape of a child under the age of 12, South Carolina Attorney General Allan Wilson announced Friday.
Airman Dustin Wood, 23, of Decatur, Ga., was arrested in March after investigators discovered evidence that he previously raped a minor and was actively seeking another victim.
Wood was additionally convicted of criminal solicitation of a minor, fraudulent enlistment and indecent language with a child.
The judge sentenced Wood to 35 years of confinement and stripped him of all pay and allowances.
The case started as an undercover Craigslist operation. Agents from Shaw Air Force Base and the Decatur County (Ga.) Sheriff’s Office assisted.
