Richland County arrests Myrtle Beach man in Internet predator sting

An undercover Internet sting has landed a Myrtle Beach man in jail for soliciting a minor, according to the office of Attorney General Henry McMaster.

Richland County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Edward Joseph Weiner, 41, of E. Sweetbriar Trail in Myrtle Beach. The attorney general’s office said Weiner began online “chats” on Feb. 27 with a person he believed to be a 13-year-old girl. Weiner was communicating with an undercover deputy.

Richland County is a member of the Attorney General’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. The Myrtle Beach Police Department, also a member of the ICAC Task Force, assisted with the investigation.

This is the 70th arrest since South Carolina passed the Internet Predator law in April 2004.

If convicted Weiner faces 10 years in prison.
