Man arrested in connection with auto break-ins

Columbia police have arrested a 52-year-old man who they say plundered a Nissan Pathfinder in downtown Columbia.

Jerry Kevin Belk, of 2221 Waites Road, Apt. 1, Columbia, was being held today at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on charges of auto breaking and petit larceny.

Police say Belk pried open a side window of the sport utility vehicle parked at 931 Senate St. in downtown Columbia on April 27 and took goods valued at more than $200. The haul included $10 in cash, 10 CDs, a satellite radio and three credit cards. He was arrested Tuesday at his home near Two Notch and School House roads.

Police say Belk is a suspect in other auto break-ins as well.
