Armored car employees assaulted, robbed

A pair of armored car service employees told Richland County authorities they were kidnapped, assaulted and robbed this morning.

The Richland County Sheriff's Department received an emergency call around 1 a.m. from the Express Teller Services Armored Car Company about the incident, Lt. Chris Cowan said.

According to the armored car driver and partner:

The workers were at the Circle K service station at Atlas and Bluff roads when the driver was hit in the head by an unknown suspect outside the vehicle. He was then forced into the vehicle at gunpoint and told to drive to White House Road off Bluff Road.

Two more suspects were waiting there with a dark-colored SUV. They duct taped and assaulted the driver and co-worker, then took a large amount of cash from the armored car. They drove off in the SUV.

The armored car employees were being interviewed this morning.

More information will be published as it is available.
