Sheriff: Man owed nearly $65,000 in child support

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department fugitive investigators have arrested a West Columbia man they believe owes nearly $65,000 in child support.

Reports indicate Clint Micheal Sawyer, 46 of Woodberry Road was arrested Tuesday on a family court bench warrant that was issued in December after the man did not make court-ordered child support payments totaling nearly $65,000 in Lexington County.

Sawyer was being held on Wednesday at the Lexington County Detention Center while awaiting a hearing in family court in Lexington County to resolve his child support case.

Lexington County Clerk of Court Beth Carrigg said a family court judge issued a bench warrant for Sawyer on Dec. 23 after determining $64,639 in court-ordered payments had not been made.

Non-custodial parents who owe court-ordered child support payments in Lexington County can make arrangements to resolve family court bench warrants that have been issued for their arrests by calling the Clerk of Court’s Office at (803) 785-1196, Carrigg said.

Non-custodial parents who are wanted on family court bench warrants also can turn themselves in at the Lexington County James R. Metts Law Enforcement Complex, 521 Gibson Road, Lexington, Metts said.
