Columbia police charge woman with reckless homicide

The Columbia Police Department has charged a woman with reckless homicide in connection with a fatal car accident on Sunday.

Latrina Monique Steward, 34, turned herself in to investigators this morning, according to the department.

Police responded to the accident at the intersections of Johnson and Ridgewood Avenues at 6:45 a.m., reports indicate.

When officers arrived, they discovered a 2008 Honda Accord that was 75 feet down an embankment. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and was transported to Palmetto Health Richland in critical condition. The victim was later pronounced dead. Two passengers were uninjured.

Police believe the Accord was struck from behind by a 2008 Ford Fusion.

Steward is being booked at the Alvin S Glenn Detention Center.
