Man recognized as regular customer charged in robbery

A Lexington man, who police say was recognized as a regular store customer, has been arrested after a local convenience store was robbed.

Justin Dale Phillips, 19, of Sycamore Tree Road, is being held in the Lexington County Detention Center pending bond. He was arrested Wednesday and charged with armed robbery, according to the Lexington County Sheriff's Department.

Reports indicate a man entered a Citgo convenience store on Augusta Road at about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday and at gunpoint ordered the store clerk to give him money from the register, Metts said. As the man ran out the store’s door, he dropped some of the money.

A clerk recognized the man as a regular customer who had been in the store earlier that day to purchase some items.

K-9 Deputy Adam Clayton and his police dog partner, Gunter, responded to the store and tracked the robber’s movements from the store to a home, Lexington County Sheriff James Metts said.

Deputies arrested Phillips at his home without incident.
