More than $100,000 in knock-offs confiscated from West Columbia hotel room

More than $100,000 in counterfeit clothing and accessories were confiscated and from a West Columbia hotel room earlier this week , state and local officials said.

Issaka Dogo of Conyers, Ga., was arrested and charged with trafficking of counterfiet good during the sting conducted Tuesday night by the Secretary of State’s Office and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department .

Authorities say counterfeit merchandise valued at $103,250 was found in the suspect's room at the Quality Inn on Augusta Road.

The merchandise included purses, shoes, clothing and sunglasses that were knockoffs of brands such as Chanel, Coach, Coogi, Dooney & Bourke, Ed Hardy, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, NASCAR, Nike, Ralph Lauren, Timberland, and Versace.

The counterfeit items will remain in storage while the Sheriff’s Department awaits a court order to destroy them, officials said.

A press release issued Wednesday night said the Secretary of State’s Office received information from an out-of-state law enforcement agency regardingDogo’s stay. According to Secretary of State Mark Hammond, Dogo is a repeat offender in Lexington County.

“The trafficking of counterfeit goods is a felony, and repeat offenders can serve up to ten years and/or pay a $50,000 fine," Hammond said.
