Police arrest man they say posed as contractor

Authorities have arrested a man investigators believe posed as a licensed contractor in order to scam people out of money.

James Harold Warren, 66, was arrested today and is charged with unlawful practice of a regulated profession and obtaining signature under false pretenses value greater than $5,000.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said officers believe the man swindled $12,000 from a victim after convincing them he was licensed contractor who could perform foundation work, roofing and other construction jobs on the their home.

Lott said documentation that falsely implied he was licensed contractor was shown to the victim. The sheriff's department was contacted after the man failed to do the work.
