Woman and her children escape carjacking at Midtown Mall

Forest Acres police are looking for information that might help identify a person police say was involved in a carjacking last Friday at Midtown Mall.

Reports indicate a woman was putting her two children into her car when she was approached by someone with a knife. The person then demanded her purse and keys to the car. The woman was allowed to get her children out of the vehicle before her attacker fled in the vehicle.

The vehicle was recovered Monday on Kershaw Street in Columbia, where it apparently was left the day of the incident.

The woman's credit cards were used a several locations, including a CVS at Forest Drive and Pinehurst, according to police.

Anyone with information should call the Forest Acres Police Department at (803) 782-9444 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
