3 arrested in early morning car theft

Three men were arrested by Richland County Sheriff's deputies early this morning in connection with an attempted car theft at Gable Hill Apartments on Ross Road.

Kenneth Jackson Jr.,18, Robert Webber, 22, and Christopher Scott, 18, are each charged with grand larceny and are being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, according to the sheriff's department..

Deputies responded to a 911 call about 3 a.m. and found a 1985 Chevrolet Impala with a broken window and its engine running, the sheriff's department said. The three suspects, who were found with gloves, ski masks, binoculars, wire cutters, bolt cutters, screwdrivers, a stolen car radio and short-range walkie talkies, were arrested as they tried to leave the area, according to the sheriff's department.

Sheriff Leon Lott said the deputies arrived in less than five minutes of being dispatched.
