Two former animal control officers have pleaded guilty to animal cruelty and have been fined.
Former Orangeburg County Animal Control officers Scotty James Thomas and Johnny Kenoid Spells said a lack of training led them to improperly euthanize animals. They have been ordered to pay $100 for each of the combined five counts of animal cruelty to which they pleaded guilty.
Warrants said they knowingly inflicted unnecessary pain and suffering on animals in 2006 by killing the animals without first providing sedation.
Thomas and Spells were fired along with three others.
