'Nosy' neighbor's tip leads to burglary arrests

Police have arrested two burglary suspects after a "nosy" neighbor called 911.

Police say the two broke into a Hampton Forest Drive home in southeast Columbia and were caught while driving from the scene. Police have been urging neighbors to watch out for one another as the burglary rate has climbed. Home burglaries in Columbia are up 32 percent so far this year over last year.

Willie Lee Kelly, 17, and a 15-year-old juvenile have been arrested, according to the Columbia Police Department.

Police stopped the suspects as they left the scene in a stolen vehicle after the witness gave a description of the vehicle and the suspects' clothing. Inside the vehicle was a laptop stolen from the Hampton Forest Drive home, police said.

Kelly is being charged with failure to stop for police, burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle and larceny. The juvenile's charges were pending, police said.
