Spring Valley crime spree ends with 11-year-old jailed

A wild spree for an 11-year-old boy in Spring Valley ended this week when Richland County Sheriff’s deputies caught him stealing a donation jar from a grocery store.

The child has been charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, malicious injury to personal property and petit larcency.

The 11-year-old allegedly shot out lightbulbs on numerous occassions at Spring Valley Apartments, Sheriff Leon Lott’s office reported.

On Nov. 5, the child allegedly shot a 15-year-old girl with a pellet gun while she was playing at the soccer complex behind Spring Valley Presbyterian Church, according to the sheriff’s department.

On Nov. 18, deputies chased the child after he was reported stealing the donation jar for a Junior League fundraiser at Kroger on Sparkleberry Lane.

Area residents had reported the crimes and given descriptions of the suspect. The boy has been confined to the S.C. Department of Juvenile Justice.
