Lexington Co. man stabbed with butcher knife dies

Lexington County deputies are hunting the killer of a West Columbia-area man who died early Sunday after being stabbed in the stomach with a butcher knife.

William Lee Willie Adams, 41, was stabbed to death at his home at 233 Pine St., Lot A-3, West Columbia, said county Sheriff James Metts in a press release.

The stabbing was reported at 3:23 a.m. Sunday to law officers.

Deputies responding to the call found Adams lying on the floor of a covered porch at the front of his home. EMS medics pronounced Adams dead at the scene.

The Lexington County Coroner's Office said Monday that an autopsy showed that Adams had died within minutes of being stabbed. The knife perforated his aorta, causing massive internal bleeding, the coroner said.

Coroner Harry Harman ruled the death a homicide.

The Sheriff's Department released no information as to how long Adams had been dead or what the motive may have been.
