Prosecutor clears S.C. deputy in man's shooting

SUMMERVILLE - A prosecutor has cleared a sheriff's deputy in the shooting death of a man last month.

A prosecutor says Dorchester County Deputy Andy Martin was justified when he fired at 28-year-old Jason Kastelhun on Jan. 9.

Prosecutor David Pascoe says Kastelhun had put lives at danger when he refused to stop for officers and fired a gun. Officials say Kastelhun had yelled for the officers chasing him to shoot him.

Investigators say Kastelhun had been drinking alcohol and was involved in a domestic dispute earlier that day. They say he led a car chase to his home where he refused to surrender and was shot after firing a .40 caliber handgun.

Martin has been a deputy since 2006.
