Columbia police have apprehended a suspect in an afternoon shooting on North Main Street.
The suspect's name has not been released and charges are pending, said Brick Lewis, a police spokesman.
The man was captured with help from the Richland County Sheriff's Department helicopter. The man was found walking along Koon Road shortly after a witness description of the suspect was released, Lewis said. He was found less than a mile from the crime scene.
The suspect is wanted for questioning in the shooting death of a outside an El Cheapo gas station on the 5900 block of North Main Street. The shooting happened shortly after 3 p.m.

Multiple shots were fired but it is unknown how many times the victim was hit. The victim's name has not been released pending notification of his family. Police are not sure of the motive behind the shooting but do not believe it was an attempted robbery, Lewis said. Noelle Phillips
