The Columbia Police Department says you should know better.
And the department announced an initiative Monday morning to remind city residents of simple safety tips they probably already know.
The "Know Better" campaign is a response to increasing property crime complaints in the city, said Interim Police Chief Carl Burke.
As part of the campaign, police will post signs in city-owned parking garages and at the entrance to every neighborhood that is part of the Columbia Council of Neighborhoods, said Sgt. Ron Felder, who runs the police property crimes department. The goal is to remind people to hide valuables, lock doors and park in well-lit areas.
