Police name suspect in Monday night shooting death

The Columbia Police Department is looking for 31-year-old man who is a suspect in a shooting death near Five Points.

Investigators have issued an arrest warrant for Spencer Lewis McDaniel of Columbia, Interim Police Chief Randy Scott said. His last known address was in the 1700 block of South Beltline Boulevard.

He is accused of shooting Germaine Brown, 26, of Hopkins.

Brown was found with multiple gunshot wounds in his upper torso around 10 p.m. Monday on Walnut Street, which runs parallel to Harden Street. He later died at Palmetto Health Richland, said Richland County Coroner Gary Watts.

Police have not released a motive in the shooting, but Scott said it was not random.

Anyone with information on McDaniel's whereabouts should call Crimestoppers at 1-888-274-6372.
