A North Carolina woman has been identified as the lone fatality in a Sunday afternoon a three-vehicle accident that tied up eastbound traffic on I-26 for hours.
Amber Conatser, 30, of Wilmington, N.C., was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, shortly after 4 p.m., according to a statement Monday from the Newberry County Coroner’s Office.
A car traveling west on I-26 went through the cable barrier and struck the 2006 Lexus that Conatser was driving, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol. The third vehicle in the accident, with seven passengers, was hit by debris from that collision, the patrol said.
The incident happened around milepost 69, about five miles northwest of Newberry.
