Columbia parks planner Damon McDuffie pleaded not guilty in federal court Thursday on charges he accepted money from contractors seeking business with the city.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Joseph R. McCrorey set a $50,000 unsecured bail for McDuffie. That means McDuffie doesn’t have to pay any money to stay out of jail, but if he doesn’t show up for court the federal government will sue him for $50,000.
McDuffie’s attorney, Joenathan Chaplin, said he has no indication the federal investigation includes any city officials other than McDuffie.
