GREENWOOD - A Greenwood County couple has been charged with elder abuse after a body was found in a camper.
Sheriff’s deputies who had charged Steven and Alicia Kelly with swindling said they discovered the couple had been cashing another man’s Social Security checks.
Investigators said Alicia Kelly told them where to find her dead grandfather’s body. A body was found near Ninety Six on Saturday. Deputy Coroner Marcia Kelley-Clark said it will take time to confirm the identity because he had been dead more than a year. An autopsy did not identify the cause of death.
The couple is charged with exploitation of a vulnerable adult, resulting in abuse or neglect, which resulted in death.
Investigators think the couple cashed more than $25,000 of the man’s checks.
