Richland County authorities have charged a 35-year-old long-distance truck driver in connection with a sexual assault and burglary of a woman he met through an online dating site, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department announced Thursday.
Cornelius Julian Howard and the unidentified victim chatted online for a few weeks, then met at a Columbia restaurant for lunch and went to her apartment to watch a rented movie, where the first alleged assaults took place, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
Howard allegedly left the woman’s apartment only to return later and assault her again, reports said.
Howard was arrested in late January.
Because the suspect’s job takes him in and out of the Midlands area, authorities are concerned there may be other victims. Contact the Sheriff’s Department at (803) 576-3029.
