A Columbia man was sentenced Friday to 25 years in prison in connection with the 2009 death of his 2-year-old daughter.
Demetrius Goodwin was found guilty of homicide by child abuse, according to a news release from the Fifth Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
According to reports, Goodwin said his daughter had fallen down the stairs on Feb. 5, 2009. He took her to the emergency room the next day, where she was pronounced dead.
Later, according to reports, he admitted squeezing the child to death. He was arrested in April 2009.
Jurors deliberated for 31/2 hours before returning a guilty verdict. Assistant Solicitor Luck Campbell prosecuted the case.
