A speeding car stopped by the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Department traffic unit on Interstate 20 turned out to have alleged prison contraband in it, Sheriff Jim Matthews announced Monday.
Inside the car, deputies found 22 cell phones with chargers, 13 1-pound packages of tobacco and cigarette lighters.
The seized items were allegedly packaged in a manner “indicative of items to be thrown over a fence at a prison,” Matthews said.
The items were seized and the driver was charged with speeding, Matthews said. The items will be turned over to state prison authorities.
