A Lowcountry man is accused of pepper spraying and sexually abusing three children who ranged in ages from 2 to 7, according to police.
Mark Carlisle Childers, 24, was arrested Monday and charged with three counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and three counts of first-degree assault and battery, according a release from the St. George Police Department.
During a month-long investigation, police learned that Childers fondled three children ages 2, 5 and 7, and sprayed pepper spray in their noses and eyes, according to the release. He also shocked them with a handheld Taser device, police say.
Childers remains in the Dorchester County Detention Center under $150,000, according to the police department.
The victims in the case took part in a forensic interview with the Dorchester Children’s Advocacy Center, the agency said. The case will be prosecuted by the First Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
Childers faces up to 15 years in prison on each of the criminal sexual conduct charges, if convicted. First-degree assault and battery carries up to 10 years in prison for each charge.
