Teen killed and bystander trying to help him also got shot, SC sheriff says
A teenager was killed Monday night in South Carolina while an adult trying to provide him aid was also injured in a shooting, according to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Sixteen-year-old Bro’darrien Tate is the victim who was killed, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
At about 8 p.m. Monday, deputies responded to reports of a shooting at 350 Bryant Road, according to the release.
When they arrived, deputies found two victims who had been shot, the sheriff’s office said. One was Tate, who later died from the injuries he suffered in the shooting.
The second victim was a 34-year-old bystander who was attempting to render aid when he was shot in the leg, according to the release. Further information on the surviving victim’s condition was not available, but he’s expected to make a full recovery, the sheriff’s office said.
No other injuries were reported.
Information about the shooter, or shooters, and how many people were involved, was not available, and there was no word on a motive for the gunfire.
No arrests have been reported, but the shooting continues to be investigated by the sheriff’s office.
Anyone with information to contact the sheriff’s office at 864-503-4595, or jguest@spartanburgcounty.org. The sheriff’s office said it believes there are members of the community who have information and urged them to come forward to secure justice for Tate’s family.
“Throughout the summer, our community endured several tragic incidents in which juveniles lost their lives to violence through the use of firearms,” the sheriff’s office said in the release. “These incidents are not random acts of violence; they are targeted attacks involving juveniles.”
There was another shooting recently reported at 350 Bryant Road, according to the sheriff’s office.
At about 2:15 a.m. on Nov. 19, deputies responded to the location where there had been shots fired, the sheriff’s office previously said. Deputies said that they learned there was an argument between several parties that was followed by gunfire.
No injuries were reported in that shooting, but a work truck was damaged by bullets, according to the sheriff’s office.
The shooter, or shooters, left the scene before deputies arrived, the sheriff’s office said.
There was no word if this incident was related to the fatal shooting at the same address five days later.
