An Oklahoma man visiting relatives in the Midlands was killed early Friday morning when the car he was riding in ran off the road and hit a tree.
Lexington County coroner Margaret Fisher identified the man as David William Austin, 44, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
The accident occurred around 1:15 a.m. on Longs Pond Road. The Mercedes he was riding in was traveling west when it went off the road and hit a tree. The vehicle’s accident sensor alerted authorities and assistance was dispatched.
Austin was pronounced dead at the scene. The 40-year-old driver of the car was taken to Palmetto Health Richland hospital with serious injuries, Fisher said. A relative of Austin, she was in stable condition Friday afternoon.
