Former moving company manager convicted of fraud by U.S. Attorney in Columbia

The former manager of a moving company was convicted of fraud, according to U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles.

Ronald Niemi, Jr., 45, the former manager of Covan World Wide Moving, Inc., was convicted after a five-day trial in Columbia, Nettles said. Niemi was the manager of Covan’s Augusta facility from 2009-11, Nettles said, adding that the company packs and moves soldiers when they’re transferred from base to base. Nettles went on to say that Covan’s paid according to the weight, and that Niemi falsified certificates to overcharge the U.S., citing 40 instances.

Niemi will be sentenced in the future and could face a 20-year prison sentence and/or a $250,000, according to Nettles.
