Hitchhiker pulls out guns, robs driver after receiving ride

Deputies are searching for a suspect who robbed a motorist after hitching a ride around the corner.

The victim picked up the suspect at Stop and Go Convenient Store, 3536 Kay St., around 3 a.m. Thursday and gave him a ride to the 800 block of Beatty Road about a quarter mile away, according to a news release from the Richland County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect then reportedly pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded belongings. The suspect stole the victim’s cell phone and credit cards.

The suspect was described as a black male in his late teens or early 20s. He was wearing a black hoodie and black jeans during the incident.
