Winthrop adds additional year to president's contract

Winthrop University trustees added another year to President Anthony DiGiorgio’s contract, extending it to 2013.

The Board of Trustees voted unanimously on the measure today in a quarterly meeting conducted via teleconference, a news release said.

DiGiorgio's contract now expires June 30, 2013.

Trustees also voted unanimously to say the president "exceeds expectations" for his job, the highest available rating, the release said.

A salary recommendation will be made to the South Carolina Budget and Control Board by the State Agency Head Salary Commission.

DiGiorgio is in his 18th year at Winthrop, the longest tenure of any public university president in the state. His current salary is $157,380.
