Patrick Hickey has been named the new faculty principal of the Capstone Scholars Program by USC.
John Spurrier previously served as faculty principal from 2005 until his recent retirement, according to the university.
“Dr. Spurrier epitomized the role of a principal, and, as the first principal for the Capstone Scholars Program, he established a high performance standard and garnered the love and respect of all his students,” said Dr. Dennis Pruitt, vice president for student affairs and vice provost for academic support. “Fortunately, the university has in waiting a person with remarkably similar attributes, and we are thrilled Dr. Hickey is both prepared and willing to share his talents and experiences as our next Capstone principal.”
Hickey, a faculty member in the College of Nursing, and has more than 30 years of experience as a registered nurse, operating-room educator and hospital risk manager, the university said. He is an avid traveler and climbed Mount Everest in 2007 to become the world’s first nurse to have scaled the Seven Summits, the tallest mountains on each of the seven continents.
