Investigators have detained a man in connection with the killing of UNC-Chapel Hill student Eve Carson, Orange County District Attorney Jim Woodall confirmed today."Somebody has been detained," Woodall said. But he said he did not know details about the circumstances.
It was not clear whether charges had been filed. Authorities have not released the name of the person detained.
Chapel Hill Police Chief Bryan Curran said he planned a news conference today. The timing of the news conference "depends on how things go inside the building," Curran said, referring to the Chapel Hill police headquarters.
Radio station WCHL cited unnamed sources as saying that an arrest was made overnight in Durham and the arrestee was turned over to the Chapel Hill police. Durham television station WTVD showed video of heavily armed police arresting a man at a home on Rosedale Avenue in Durham.

Carson, 22, of Athens, Ga., was found shot to death on a neighborhood street north of the campus a week ago today. She was the student body president and a Morehead-Cain scholar.
Law enforcement officers had been looking at surveillance photos since Friday. Police on Saturday released photos from a local bank's ATM, then more from a local convenience store Monday. The photos showed a man wearing what appeared to be a Houston Astros cap and a hooded sweatshirt.
