A point man for President Barack Obama's 2008 campaign in South Carolina has signed on to the 2010 gubernatorial campaign of Democratic state Sen. Vincent Sheheen, the campaign said.
Trav Robertson, a veteran Democratic campaign adviser, will function in an as-yet unspecified capacity in the Sheheen campaign.
"We are fortunate to have Trav join our team," Sheheen said in a statement, noting Robertson's experience in leading the campaigns of U.S. Rep. John Spratt, D-S.C., and former state treasurer Grady Patterson, in addition to Obama.
"Trav knows South Carolina's potential and understands that my campaign will focus on moving our state forward," Sheheen said.
Robertson is optimistic about Sheheen's chances.
"Vincent is the only candidate that sponsored legislation forcing (Gov.) Mark Sanford to take the stimulus money," Robertson said. "He fights against special interests and tackles hard issues like payday lending and environmental protection."
